Opportunity Snapshot

65% of the Fortune 1000 and 80% of the Global 500 support their key technology decisions with Gartner insight.

Why?

If you are curious enough to learn more about how Gartner makes connections, understands patterns and discovers trends no other research firm can envision, then you have at least one of the key traits required to become a member of our sales team. . .

Gartner in Brief
Gartner delivers the technology-related insight necessary for our clients to make the right decisions, every day. How? We offer the combined brainpower of 1,200 research analysts and consultants who advise executives in 75 countries every day. We publish tens of thousands of pages of original research annually and answer 200,000 client questions every year.

Your Opportunity
We have an opening for an Account Executive in our Seattle office. This job gives you access to Senior IT Executives with the opportunity to help them achieve their business objectives.
  • Be a trusted advisor to your clients: Gartner's chief product is objective advice -- and this advice can help the IT executives at some of the country's most recognizable firms to solve their most complex business issues. In addition to the knowledge and learning you'll be exposed to, you'll have the added satisfaction of seeing your clients achieve success as a direct result of Gartner's services.
  • Brand awareness/market leader position: Gartner is a market leader -- a market maker in fact, not a follower -- and our reputation alone will open a lot of doors. If you're in banking and you work at Goldman Sachs, for example, a certain reputation precedes you. It's the same at Gartner.
  • Compensation: the compensation package includes a base + commission plan matched to sales objectives that are realistic and attainable. Once you exceed your targets -- and we expect that you will -- an accelerator will kick in at 20% of all sales over your target, putting your income on a rapid upward trajectory.
  • Longevity & and a career path: show us you are an "A" player, and we will reward you with a long term career path rich with development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 5 + years proven consultative sales experience, preferably in high technology (services, software or hardware). Your sales experience should include:
    • Extensive experience selling to C-level contacts and knowledge of the issues they face
    • Consistent over achievement of sales quotas
    • Proven ability to understand enterprise wide issues and to structure innovative, integrated solutions
  • Experience in high technology, or, at a minimum, an active interest in expanding your knowledge base in this area.

More about the Roles

The role has "classic" sales responsibilities. Your primary focus will be to maintain the existing business while further penetrating and growing the accounts, and you will spend the majority of your time prospecting, setting meetings and making sales presentations to both existing and new clients.

Before you dive in, however, you'll start with a tiered training program that will thoroughly prepare you for the role. Training includes an online orientation module, a trip to Fort Myers, Florida for an introduction to the Gartner organization, and formal sales training in "value selling", the foundation of the Gartner sales process.

Keys to Success

Successful sales executives at Gartner are competitive, tenacious and confident. But what sets them apart are these traits:
  • A consultative nature: perhaps the most critical skill our sales team possesses is the ability to understand how technology enables a client's (or potential client's) business success, and then to apply that knowledge in the development of customized solutions. It takes a consultative approach -- research, preparation, thoughtful & probing questioning, and interpersonal savvy -- to achieve this level of understanding, but once established, it is the key to unlocking the relationship.
  • Mental horsepower: an intelligent mind is a curious mind, and our complex, fast-moving environment creates a bias for smart individuals who are able to think on their feet, deal with conceptual thinking, and who can match ideas with some of the top professionals in the business.
If you share these traits and want to join a world-class organization, we look forward to hearing from you.
